Perceptions audits

Would you like to know what the people you are trying to influence really think of your approach?

Emma will use qualitative research techniques to gather information about how the people who are on the receiving end of your influencing work view what you are doing. The research will provide you with information to hone your future campaigning and influencing strategies, enabling you to become more effective.

By undertaking a perceptions audit, you will understand:

  • How your target audience perceives your charity and its approach to political communications
  • Your level of influence in Westminster and Whitehall (and amongst wider audiences, if required)
  • Exactly how you have influenced policy and/or practice
  • How you can develop your political communications for greater impact

Case Study: Help the Aged
Help the Aged (now Age UK) commissioned Emma to assess the overall effectiveness of its communications in Westminster and Whitehall and to identify ways in which the charity could develop them for greater impact. Emma conducted a series of in-depth interviews with ministers, shadow ministers, top civil servants and backbench MPs. The result was a substantial report which senior managers used to demonstrate the influence of the charity’s public affairs work and identify ways of making it even more effective.
